It is often said that Aries is the youngest sign, that it is the child of the zodiac, that its energy is reckless, thoughtless, maybe brave at the best of time. Most Aries natives do not seem to ever take the time to explain themselves, further contributing to the popularity of the more simplistic explanations.
Aries is the beginning and the birth of a child. If we push a little bit further, Mars, the ruler of Aries, also rules over sex and aggression. For that reason, Arians are often credited for sowing the seeds. It is often not acknowledged that the Aries energy is also the energy that sustains the pregnancy. The shaky first steps to get a project off the ground is where Arians show up, filled with enthusiasm and pure fire. No one seems to acknowledge either that the pregnancy of a child, both literally and in any figurative sense, consists of pain, uncertainty, and loneliness. You might have a partner or a supportive friend but it is your child and yours alone. The potential miscarriage of such seed is your responsibility and you acutely bear its burden every single day. When Arians are unable to carry through this “pregnancy” period is when one sees Arians at their most depressive points. In fact, many Arians spend years and years in this depressive period until they can put themselves together and get back up again.
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” – Maya Angelou, Aries Sun, Jupiter, Uranus.
The birthing of a child is even more uncertain and traumatic. There might be unexpected complications and one is never quite sure what the end results might look like. Yet we all have to welcome this newborn, so fragile and vulnerable, as pure joy and happiness, after the messy process that brings it to life. Every Aries placement appreciates the novelty of adventures and the unexpected that often Arians spend time in the incubating period, ready to push their creations out into the world. Once it has set out to do something, Arians are known to push through all the challenges until it reaches its final destination. Those birthing moments are their heights; so are raw joy and sadness. They are less interested once things become refined, processed, and complicated. Muddy water isn’t Aries’ favorite; one is never 99% percent pregnant, and a child is either born or dead, kicking and crying or gone. No explanation needed. It is no surprise most Aries appreciate honesty and a no-BS approach.
“Ideas are cheap. Ideas are easy. Ideas are common. Everybody has ideas. Ideas are highly, highly overvalued. Execution is all that matters.” – Casey Neistat, Aries Sun, Venus, Mars
Once the child was born, they are off to a new adventure because it is Taureans’ task to nurture and sustain. The rest of the world might be frustrated with Aries’ ability to move on so quickly, to drop things off when it all just starts, but the Arian mind has been sustaining the pregnancy, the prepping of the final birth, the anticipation and the uncertainty of whether the birthing even happens at all that it does not feel the need to excuse itself once the act is done. It has seen what it sets out to do accomplished. What’s left to say, anyway? Once an Aries native perceives that the journey is done (as opposed to Capricorn’s sense of accomplishment) the ball is completely dropped and there is no returning. Aries is a personal sign, it does not compare what it sees with how it is perceived by societal standards nor does it care for others’ approval. The Sun is exalted in Aries, it does not dim its light for your petty concerns. The free will is raw and powerful and, one might argue, sometimes unchecked.
A very common criticism of Arians is their inability to finish things. The Aries challenge has never been to finish things; not everything needs to be finished just for the sake of being finished. One must know whether a battle is worth the fight and Arians are always looking out for the signs to keep going or to stop. The true challenge for Aries natives is sustaining the novelty of adventures every day in everything they do. They are the children of the zodiac, after all; there is always a lot to learn and new heights to reach. The ultimate enemy of the Aries energy isn’t the lack of stamina or discipline but rather stagnation and complacency. And every Aries native knows this fact deep in their bones as they are the first ones to tell others to “snap out of it,” to “put yourself out there and take the hit” because one must have faith that the world has yet to be conquered and we have yet to know it all.
“If I make a fool of myself, who cares? I’m not frightened by anyone’s perception of me.” – Angelina Jolie, Lunar Arian
