“We don’t forgive people because they deserve it. We forgive them because they need it – because we need it. We all need it.” – Janis Joplin
Childhood and Emotional Responses
Cancer is a cardinal water sign, ruled by the moon. Thus the moon is at home in the sign of cancer and is usually an indicator of a protective, understanding mother who caters to every emotional high and low of the native. The native’s home life is usually conventional and the mother is viewed as a traditional caretaker.
The moon is the only satellite of planet Earth. It often reflects the light of the sun, and one can only see the moon at night, partially; remember, the moon is always partially hidden and how much one can see the moon really depends on the day. As much as many people attribute pleasant, soft qualities to the moon and the sign of Cancer, as much as people think the moon is only a satellite reflecting others’ light and the sign Cancer is always living on the peripheral of attention, it is important to remember that this astronomical body affects the tidal waves; it will flood you if the mood strikes. The sign Cancer is also represented by the crab, so as much as natives of this sign walk side way to the target, it can always pinch you with its claws.
When it comes to one’s emotional nature, Cancer moons are very moody, whimsical, and might do things without any reason other than the fact that they feel like doing it. Now, the moon changes its sign every 2.5 days, so Cancer moons are able to understand the emotional highs and lows of all other moon signs. Similar to a Taurus moon, Cancer mooners will take their time to process their feelings, evaluate options, examine carefully before committing to any action because they are keenly aware of how one can make mistakes by making rash decisions in a very emotional state. Those natives, more than anyone else, understand what it means to feel nurtured and at home.
When there is a problem, Cancer moons tend to ruminate through all their emotional states, trying to understand their feelings. Unlike air moons, Cancer moon natives are not looking for a logical reason; they are attempting to assess whether an action feels right. In extreme situations, they withdraw first to process before coming back out. Cancer moons, when younger, tend to make many mistakes because they have yet to go through all their emotional highs and lows and still desire to experience new emotional states, given the right people and environment where they feel like they can have some level of protection. As they get older, they have a much clearer sense of a true home, of believing in themselves. They tend to ruminate through their past mistakes, and might regret many things they’ve done; after mulling over their past actions, they are usually able to laugh at themselves and come back out and give the things most important to them another try. Cancerians at their best can be very tenacious.
On the other hand, many Cancer moons could not get over their past mistakes, so they withdraw into a safe bubble, befriending the same group of people and never let themselves experiencing something new.
Cancer moons can do well in any career they set their mind to if these careers provide the right feeling these natives want. Usually, they settle on a career that they love; rarely does one see a Cancer moon juggles multiple careers. But whatever they decide to do, they tend to try their best to do a good job. Cancer moons are also great at being mentors for others; since every mistake hurts them so deeply, they see the potential of how others can get hurt and will hold another’s hand through the rough patches.
One thing people forget about Cancerians is that these natives love to play. They will date several different people, sometimes without much care or selection. After going through heartbreaks and unsatisfying relationships, a Cancer moon will become more selective, exuding the qualities of their opposite sign, Capricorn. They often will marry because there is a desire to build a home and a family and leaving behind a legacy.
It is hard to talk about Cancer moon’s anger without discussing griefs. Everything affects these natives at such an emotional level that they will remember for a long time why they were upset in the first place. They might not remember everything though and might cherry-pick the pieces of evidence that align with their own narrative. This is a water sign; it is not operating on the plane of logic and objectivity. However, if you upset a Cancer moon, expect that they will either withdraw and drown in their own tears, or come back out and drown you in their flood. Unlike Pisces or Scorpio, Cancer moons rarely go through intense rage and direct their anger full on at their targets; instead, they will backstab, or be passive-aggressive; they will be petty, they will rearrange things just to make your life harder, and they will never admit upfront that their actions have anything to do with how you hurt them. Remember, the moon is always partially hidden. You might get pinched, but you will not expect when, how, or sometimes from whom. Their passive-aggression might still come out 10 years after the act just because that one day they sit by the fire and suddenly remember how upset they were with you.
